How’s this for a blasphemy? To a search engine, content is Manna. And websites constantly serving up quality content, are richly rewarded. Recently I spoke with an individual who really likes posting helpful tips on his website. And his visitors really enjoy his information and return every month for his latest updates. However I really felt he broke one of the cardinal rules of search engines, the lost commandment:
Thou shall not delete content!
He was maintaining his tips page by deleting last months information and putting the current months. Everything went dark and people around me swear they saw tiny Twitter birds circling my head.
I truly believe that you should host your own WordPress site. And if your current host isn’t up to it definitely try MDD Hosting which is the host we use for this site. For a blog, this site loads fast which says good things about this web host. Or if you really prefer a more commercial webhost try GoDaddy, they seem to be the best of the bunch. However don’t ever believe a web host’s claim of “unlimited”. Server space and bandwidth is unlimited up to a point and once you cross that line you’ve out grown their service and you will get a “It’s not you, it’s us” letter basically giving your site it’s walking papers.
However I am willing to bow to King Solomon’s judgment and say if nothing else please use WordPress.org for hosting your blog. Yes it’s free, but at least you are saving your content.
